The origins of the Péloquins (or Pélloquin, Ploquin, and interestingly Crédit and Félix) in history is very difficult to establish since the name predates the oldest registries.

The armorial attributed to our family was "De gueule à la tour d'argent" (translated - a silver tower on red background).

The arrival of the Péloquins in Canada is not known precisely. The best estimate is that Francois Pélloquin arrived sometime between 1683 and 1688 from the city of Niort in the Poitou-Charentes area of France.

The Iroquois in New France had been subdued by 1666, but arose again in 1680. Governor de La Barre requested troops from the King of France. In response, he sent a company of marines each year from 1683 through 1688. Francois Pélloquin was one of the marines sent to fight the indians.
