Timura Family
It was a normal hectic day at work, Wednesday September 9th, 1999. Shannon had just had a miscarriage and was on a follow up appointment. The original one was for the following Wednesday but...we had Indians tickets and Shannon called to reschedule and was asked to come right in. Good thing too. I received a phone call at work around two o'clock instructing me to leave immediately something was very wrong with my wife.
When I arrived at the hospital, Shannon was considerably nervous. We were called into the doctor's private chambers. At this point we were both scared. The doctor proceeded to tell us Shannon is still pregnant. We were shocked! Shannon had gone to the emergency room last week and was told she had lost the baby. She had a D&C done the same day, by this doctor, to clean out the uterus and prevent infection.
So how could she still be pregnant? Is the baby ok? Is Shannon Ok? It was explained that she had a very rare condition called a corneal pregnancy, which is when the baby comes out of the tube and implants on the outside corner of the uterus. This placed the baby on a main artery. We were told surgery was needed immediately.
The doctors had never operated on such a condition and the risks were extremely high. The only cases the doctors could find on this were in autopsies. All Shannon's baby making parts had to be taken out too, which is called a hysterectomy. Shannon burst into tears. I could do nothing. I sure could not tell her everything was going to be all right. We had wanted more kids.
Why? We prayed and a wonderful peace fell on Shannon, she went from very anxious to very relaxed, even smiling and reassuring her visitors with me. She was so relaxed that when one of the doctors came in with medicine to calm her he thought she was already sedated. A lot of friends came to sit with me during this four hour procedure. We prayed, we reminisced and we cried. The phone rang in the waiting room and when I answered the doctor said,"We can save a lot of your wife's uterus, should we?" Yes!
The surgery was a huge success. The doctor visited and called us at home to see how we were doing. Everything was great. Now we knew we could most likely not have any more children but we accepted that. We were thankful Shannon's life was spared and we enjoyed the three beautiful children we had.
Little did we know God was not finished with our family yet. Within just 9 months of surgery Shannon was pregnant. Absolutely remarkable. The doctors were very surprised and wanted her in right away. "Yes you are expecting but..." We were warned about the many risks involved. Once again we were very scared. The list of risks and tests seemed to increase with every visit. One of the main concerns was Shannon having contractions and her uterous rupturing.
Well at 6 months the pain started, more tests, estimated C-Section dates given along with a list of things to carefully watch for. The baby looked good, she couldn't have been in a better position and the incision healed perfectly.
Our oldest son, Sam, carried emergency numbers and was given instruction in case anything happened. Nothing did, and at 8 months the baby was taken by C-Section on January 10th, 2001 at 11:21 AM. Veyda Grace Timura was born weighing 6 pounds 11 Ounces and 20 inches long. She is healthy and absolutely beautiful with dark hair, blue eyes and dimples. WOW!
The story isn't over yet though. God confirmed he had His hand in all of this during surgery. When they went to remove the remaining baby making parts because of the potential danger in trying to carry another child. We heard, "Honey I don't know how you got pregnant, I can't find your tube!" She ordered all of Shannon's records up during surgery to check what exactly was removed at the last operation. Other doctors were called in for their opinions, right in front of us. "Is this possible?", "I can't be sure if this is the tube.", "It is completely smashed.", "What did we take out last time?", "Send it to the lab to make sure."
Shannon and I could just smile. Veyda was a true miracle from the very beginning. When the doctors are baffled and the answers are few, there is only one explanation...GOD!

Veyda Grace Timura
Why Veyda Grace?
Veyda...means beloved, it is a feminine form of David. She is much beloved too. Abbey is so thrilled to have a sister and happy that the whole ordeal is over. She had been very anxious. Joe is my gentle giant around her, kissing and singing to her. He finally gets to see the little one he yelled at through Shannon's stomach for months! Sam is a great help, very relaxed now that mom and baby are home safe and sound.
Grace...because the grace of God sustained us all through this time. Thank you all for your help, prayers and concern. Join us now as we celebrate and give all the glory to GOD! ... Paul Timura
