God’s Plan
By: Rev. Ronald B. Stamets

Romans 5:19: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

I woke up yesterday morning worshipping The Lord in my head, even as my eyes were just beginning to open, a song of praise was in my heart.  I continued singing it quietly in my head as I went about my routine of making coffee and waking up my computer.  A question came to my mind.  "Why do you really believe that Jesus is real?

I thought for a moment and the Bible and all it contained came to mind, but that wasn&146;t the reason I believed.  The Bible is the reason I have grown in understanding, knowledge and wisdom of the Lord.  I read the Bible and went to church from a very young age.  As a matter of fact, at one time in my life when I was almost a total atheist, I could use the Bible itself to "blow the correct theology boat" of most Christian acquaintances right out of the water.  No, it wasn’t "correct" church teaching or Biblical exposition that has caused me to believe. ... It was a 30 or 40-second experience that changed my life and has proven that Jesus Christ is as real as air.  All of the rest has been meat to help me grow stronger in faith.

My early view was that churches were full of hypocrites.  (By the way, the only place you can find a religious hypocrite is in a church.)  Religious people doing religious things on Sunday.  To me church was kind of like a fire (hell) insurance policy payment.  People would take an hour on Sunday to make a weekly payment. ... Just in case.  But their lives were the same mess all week as those who didn't go to church.  Not for me.  I could get through the world on my own ... and enjoy life to it’s fullness.  What I discovered is that there is a price to pay when we go our own way.  Feelings of resentment towards my parents added a little weight of guilt on my shoulders.  Then a little more weight was added when drugs and alcohol became an important part of my social life.  Broken relationships and broken promises added more weight.  Although the drugs and alcohol seemed to dull the weight of guilt and pain, it added it’s own weight of remorse when I woke up the next day.  More weight to carry than I had before.  All of the things I used to lessen the weight I carried only made the load heavier.

One night, in order to get some religious friends off my back, I showed up at a small worship and prayer group.  I thought this will end it.  Now I will be able to go on without them bugging me anymore.  Little did I know that a 30 or 40 second encounter with the Risen Savior would change my life forever.  During the worship, in my mind’s eye I came face to face with Jesus.  He said "Let me have the load ... it is too much for you to carry".  This was real.  It wasn’t religion and I had to make a decision.  At that moment I said quietly in my heart, looking Him in the eyes. ..."Take it.  I can’t carry it any longer."  Instantly it was gone.  It was all gone!  The past hurts, the guilt, the bitterness. ... It was gone.  In 27 years, the baggage and the load I gave Him that night has never returned.  That is why I believe.  And unlike the alcohol and drugs, no new loads have been added.  I am free.  I love it.  How about you?  Got a load to get rid of?  You can do it right now.  Just close your eyes and ask Jesus to forgive you and ask him to take the load.  He is always there ... we just don’t notice Him.  Ask Him to be The Lord of your life and to begin to change you into a child of the Living God.  Then email revron@yeshuwah.net and let me know about your decision.  I will email you a little letter of encouragement.

Conformed to His Image
By: Rev. Ronald B. Stamets

Luke 4:13: And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Jesus had just been baptized and was "full of the Holy Ghost".  He was at a high point spiritually and emotionally.  The Spirit had just descended in the form of a dove and the voice from heaven had just confirmed God’s pleasure in Jesus.  Then wham!  Jesus is placed in a position of testing.  A place where his responsibility of stewardship for the increase of his anointing would be put to the test.

Satan attacked where he believed Jesus would be most vulnerable, but Jesus recognized the subtleties of the attack and resisted the temptation of the enemy.  But notice that the Word of God indicates that the enemy did not quit and leave Jesus alone permanently.  The Scripture verse above declares that the devil departed FOR A SEASON.  He would return again, and again, always attempting to thwart the God given destiny of Jesus.

In ministry, it is interesting (and often saddening) to see people cycling through the same personal difficulties over and over again and instead of recognizing the spiritual attack, blame another person or people, or a circumstance over which they have no God given control.  Never recognizing that the enemy is waging an assault on them in the wilderness.

This often occurs soon after we believe that we finally have victory over an area of weakness in our lives.  Things are going really great and then just like Jesus, wham!  We are confronted with the same or a similar event that caused us great distress in the past.  We are tempted to believe that a brother or sister in Christ has taken advantage of our "good nature", or they just "plain don’t like me".  Yet, just like in the past, we go with our feelings rather than risk having the light of truth expose our error.  So, relationships are severed, divisions in the church develop and we become hurt, frustrated and bitter.  Worse yet, the enemy convinces us that we are better off being alone.

Jesus was given the ability to recognize the spiritual attack and so are you and I.  Jesus was required to take godly action in the battle and so are you and I.  Jesus was aware that the devil would return to try to deceive him again, and we also need to have that awareness.  Each of us has areas of weakness that gives the devil an area to gain access to our lives.  By first recognizing that our problems are not caused by external circumstances or "other people" we are able to focus better on what the Word of God has to say about dealing with the issues and the people in our lives.

As painful as it may appear to be to deal with Scripturally, (another deception) we each need to separate people and things from our focus of "the problems we are having".  People and things are not our enemies.  If you are angry with someone, Scripture clearly provides resolution, and leaves no hurt or bitter feelings between people.  If you are in a financial mess, Scripture has clear solutions to the problem.  But you cannot do it standing alone.  The Bible declares that there is wisdom in the council of many.  (But not in immature or Biblically ungrounded people).  An unwillingness to accept godly council and holding you accountable to "anyone but God" is the formula for failure, and repetition of the same mistakes over and over and over and over and over again.

Making Jesus Christ Lord is more than just saying a prayer, it is allowing the Holy Ghost to lead us into the wilderness to be tested, made strong in the faith, so that we may become more conformed into the image of Christ.
